3. Gujarat elections: Rahul Gandhi to kickstart poll campaign from Dwaraka

The Gujarat Congress has divided entire Gujarat Assembly Poll into four segments. Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi will start Gujarat Congress' poll campaign from the holy city of Dwaraka after returning from the United States.

According to Gujarat Congress' senior leader Shakti Sinh Gohil, Gandhi scion will campaign in Saurashtra from September 25 to September 27.
"To defeat Kaurvas, Pandvas went to Lord Krishna for his blessing and guidance. That's why we are also starting our party's poll campaign after seeking Lord Krishna's blessings," Gohil told India Today.

4. Gurdaspur Loksabha bypoll: AAP fields Major General Suresh Khajuria for seat vacated after Vinod Khanna's death

Chandigarh: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday announced retired Major General Suresh Khajuria as its candidate from the Gurdaspur Lok Sabha seat where a bypoll is scheduled next month.

The bypoll was necessitated by the death of actor and BJP leader Vinod Khanna, who was the sitting MP.

The decision to field 64-year-old Khajuria was taken after consultations with the Gurdaspur unit of the party and the Majha region leaders and volunteers, AAP leader Sukhpal Khaira said in Jalandhar.

5. Congress leader Manish Tewari's abusive post on Narendra Modi triggers Twitter row

Congress leader Manish Tewari on Sunday triggered a row with a Twitter post using abusive language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, evoking sharp reactions from the BJP and the Twitterati demanding an apology from Sonia Gandhi.

Tewari is the second Congress leader after party general secretary Digvijaya Singh to come under fire for using foul language against Modi. Singh had recently retweeted a post which contained expletives against the prime minister.

In his post, Tewari wrote in Hindi in Roman script about how Modi "befooled" people and that, "Even Mahatma cannot teach MODI Deshbhakti (patriotism)".

8. Congress chief captain Amarinder Singh says Congress likely to get two third majority

Punjab Congress chief captain Amarinder Singh foresees a landslide victory in the coming elections in Punjab and maintained that he was confident of getting a two-third majority which is required to carry out much needed constitutional changes that would bring Punjab back on track. Talking to media in Amritsar he also said that he thought Akali Dal BJP combine would get only 10-20 seats. He also maintained that Navjot Singh Siddhu has joined the party without any preconditions. Captain also took the occasion to attack AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal, who he thought was a confused man and that people would not vote for his party.

9. BJP likely to announce its second list of Uttar Pradesh on 20th January

The BJP is rushing through its process of finalizing the list of candidates for the UP elections. On 19th January the senior leaders of the BJP had a brainstorming session with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party president Amit Shah to finalize the second list.  In the first list, 149 candidates for the UP have already been announced. It is being reported that 150 more candidates have been finalized and the list may be out on Friday the 20th. The elections in Uttar Pradesh would be held from February 11 onwards in seven phases.
